FALL 2011/SPRING 2012 SOCCER REGISTRATION
The Ashland Optimist Club organizes recreational/instructional programs for T-ball, baseball, softball, soccer and basketball.  In all of our sports programs we stress fun, learning and sportsmanship. In order to achieve this we have adopted the following rules for players, coaches and fans on and around the field of play.

OPTIMIST YOUTH SPORTS RULES
The Ashland Optimist Club is committed to providing a safe, positive and healthy environment to participants in our programs.  As such, we require that the following rules be respected:

No alcohol or tobacco allowed on the fields;
No firearms or weapons allowed on the fields;
No pets allowed on the fields during practices and games;
No foul language allowed on the fields;
No disrespectful language or yelling at game officials;
No unsportsmanlike-like conduct allowed on the field;
No closer than 5 ft. to the field by fans watching games;
No trash left on the field by participants;
No unauthorized use of fields or facilities;

No unattended children and/or improper playing with equipment.

Persons not complying with these rules will be warned or asked to leave the private property of the Ashland Optimist Club.  Persons refusing to leave will be charged with trespass and/or additional appropriate charges.

FALL 2010 SOCCER FORMAT

Instructional:  For those entering Kindergarten in the fall.  Format will be 3v3, with separate boys and girls teams if numbers allow.

1rst / 2nd Grade:  3v3 or 5v5 (Depending on number of participants and volunteer coaches).  Separate boys and girls teams if numbers allow.

3rd / 4th Grade:  5v5 or 7v7 (Depending on number of participants and volunteer coaches).  Separate boys and girls teams if numbers allow.

NOTE:  All practices and games are planned to take place at the Ashland Optimist soccer fields.  Formats and team structures will be decided on number of total registrations.

GRADES 5th/6th and 7th/8th FORMAT

Players would practice twice a week, be divvied up on Saturday morning (based upon number of attendees), and games played.

Benefits:

1.  All players would receive the same benefit of quality coaching.  Coaches would receive the benefit of drills/practice guidance from high school coaching staff/players.

2.  Players would receive instruction on 3v3 to 11v11 skills, and team sizes for games would be determined by the number of players in attendance on a Saturday morning.

3.  There would be no "strong vs. weak" teams, as teams would be different each Saturday.

4.  Players could more freely learn different positions as the teams change.

5.  Players would have fun/excitement in learning different aspects of game.

6.  Families/players away for a weekend would not feel the stress to be there every game.

7.  Quality instruction for all, in preparation for possible school team participation in the future.

8.  Might be able to take a look at gender separation depending upon numbers.

9.  Will provide an opportunity for "friendlies", with out-of-town teams coming to Ashland.

10. RECREATIONAL FUN!
